New Trimester begins January 4th, 2010

Wow, that's the first time I've written "2010". Suddenly I'm humming "time keeps on slipping, slipping, slipping... into the fuuuture."

My mind is packed full of music, some useful and some... not.

We have been absolutely thrilled with the progress of our students and program this fall. Thanks to all of you for investing your time and trust in us and in our superb teachers. We have a bunch of great news to announce at the recitals and in our January newsletter, so please stay tuned.

Inspirational Violinist

I just have to tell you about one of my students. Bailey is a wonderful young musician who has practiced diligently in addition to concentrating and putting lots of effort into her lessons. But it's not just her skill and enjoyment of the violin that makes her a great young lady to teach. Bailey has a generous and exuberant sprit that spills over to the people around her.

This week she came in with a sweet new hairdo, having donated 13 inches of her gorgeous red hair to Locks of Love, "a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis."

Thanks, Bailey- great lesson this week.

December 2009 Recital Week

Recitals are a meaningful, concrete way to encourage and celebrate all the hard work our students, faculty and family members have done this term. Students learn from performing and from enjoying their colleague's success. Our vision is that every student would perform in one of our recitals each term and that they would all attend the Honors Recital at Lewis & Clark College.

If you are an RCMA parent, please invite friends and family to come and encourage your child. We encourage anyone interested in our program to attend any of our recitals to chat with teachers and enjoy some fantastic young music makers!

Saturday, December 12th, 10:30am
Lewis & Clark College's Evans Music Center

ALL OUR STUDENTS ARE WARMLY INVITED & ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND THIS SPECIAL RECITAL.
This is our Honors Solo recital for students who are invited by their teachers to show the fruits of their diligent work this term. Teacher invitation/approval is required to play a solo. We'll also have group performances pooled from the various groups we have playing each week around town. Group teachers will arrange these performances. Some of our faculty will also perform. At the conclusion of the performances we'll celebrate with treats in Seitz Lounge.

Wednesday, December 16th, 6:30pm
PAES Gresham Library

All-levels recital. Your teacher will help you find a piece to perform in this more relaxed, celebratory recital. Groups will also perform.

Thursday, December 10th, 5-7pm ***PLEASE NOTE DATE CHANGED***

Parent's Night Out!

Last month we enjoyed our first Parent's Night Out in the Pearl. Dr. Valdine Mishkin brought handouts with practice games & tips and gave an overview of the Suzuki Philosophy. Elizabeth Peyton discussed child development and specifically the strengthening of a family's communication skills through the medium of music lessons & practice partners. Dr. Miriam English Ward discussed the language we use with children and how to encourage your child's ability to learn.

Sip & Kranz gave us a lovely spread of hors d'oeuvres and our own separate room. The night was definitely a success, and we'd like to invite YOU to our November Parent's Night Out!

Our next Parent's Night Out is Saturday, November 14th from 5pm at Sip & Kranz in the Pearl. (One block South of Lovejoy on NW 10th.)

We'll discuss tips for helping your child enjoy & prepare for the upcoming recital week, innovative practice tips, trends in childhood development & education and the core thoughts behind the Suzuki Method. Sip & Kranz has a private room reserved just for us and provides a delicious spread of hors d'oeuvres. They also serve wine, microbrews and gourmet coffee. It's a great start to a fun night out for parents, or bring your kids and we'll provide some activities to help them entertain themselves while we chat.

Space is limited, so please submit payment through Paypal or by check to reserve your spot.

Single or Couple? (Kids are free!)

We'll send you a confirmation email upon receipt.
Drop-ins will also be welcome dependent on space available.
